About the Project

When planning the budget, the Town estimates how much money will be spent (expenditures) to maintain public services and infrastructure, and how that money that will be generated (revenue) to meet the anticipated expenditures. Once these estimates are made and plans are set, staff develop the budget for Council’s consideration.

As we continue to deliver services to our growing community, we are working to ensure that our business plans and budgets reflect the projects and service level of service that our residents have come to know and expect. And in doing so, we are committed to ensuring that the services we provide are aligned with the needs of Cochranites and delivered in an effective, efficient, and financially sustainable way.

Delivering on your priorities while maintaining services

We are all experiencing increased costs to heat our homes, fuel our vehicles, and participate in activities. Cochrane is also experiencing these increases as we heat our municipal facilities, fuel our mowers and snowplows, and purchase materials to support critical community projects.

The draft budget reflects the impact of these increased costs. It sets us on a path to continue to grow as a complete community, and positions us as one of the best places in Alberta to live, work and raise a family. We are committed to ensuring that the services we provide are aligned with the needs of Cochranites and delivered in an effective, efficient and financially sustainable way. This budget protects our thriving future.

Provide your input

Earlier this year, we asked you to help us determine where to focus your tax dollars, to ensure we are providing the level of service that you have come to know and expect.

We heard your priorities:

  • Well maintained parks, pathways and green spaces
  • Efficient roadways
  • Community safety
  • Abundant and affordable recreation opportunities

Creating a complete community means continuing to provide quality services today, saving for our future needs and delivering on the projects that will support us both now and into the future.
